Part of the reason Microsoft decided to name the release by 2015 under the name of Windows 7 (and skip Windows 9) because the operating system is designed to be a new direction for Microsoft. One of the main goals of this Windows to unify the experience of using Windows on multiple devices, such as desktop computers, tablets and Smartphones.
While Windows 10 has many new features, including the return of the Start Menu are removed in Windows 8.
